How I Came To Play This Game
Green Devil Fight
There was a time where I was collecting lots of Megaman games. I bought some used games at Gamestop and got Megaman & Bass for free with the buy 2 get 1 free deal. I went home and tried to play it, but the game was way to hard compared with other Megaman games. I couldn't make it past one boss stage. Then, when I jailbroke my PSP, I used an emulator with save states to beat the game just to see the story. I actually made it through Megaman's story without using any cheats, but I had to use cheats for Bass' story.
Story
After Mega Man 8, Dr. Wily's whereabouts were still unknown, and he built a new castle to prepare his comeback. But a robot calling himself King appeared and began to recruit other robots to form a new robot army. He believed that robots were not meant to simply serve humans, but rather that they were superior and therefore should be the "masters of the Earth". Dr. Wily was ousted from his own new castle. To stop King, Bass and Mega Man made a truce to put a stop to King's rebellion. When King attacked the Robot Museum to gather data, Proto Man attempted to stop him, but King cut him in half with his axe and Mega Man and Bass sent him to the lab and confronted him. King withdrew, claiming not to have time for them, and left them to his subordinates. Once his army of Robot Masters was defeated and the Crystal Gate that protects King's fortress is unlocked, the two made their way through his fortress, defeating two war machines along the way, and confronted him. None of their attacks appeared to phase him, so the newly repaired Proto Man came again, charged up his Big Bang Attack (even though it would severely damage his internal systems), and destroyed King's shield. Mega Man and Bass managed to defeat King and, upon his defeat, Dr. Wily appeared on the screen and asked King what was wrong with his "brain washing." He remotely repaired King and then King fled to another room and combined two previous war machines into a giant battle machine, but was defeated again and begged the two to stop Wily's ambitions. Mega Man and Bass then went to Wily's floor of the castle and put a stop to the madness. In the end, Mega Man was sad that an innocent robot was destroyed, but then he received a letter from King and found out that everything was all right. Bass, however, was mad that Dr. Wily had plotted against him, but Wily claimed he wanted to find out if King was stronger than he was. Proto Man teleported in, saw plans for a "King II" on Wily's computer, and then destroyed them, leaving the two to quarrel amongst themselves.

Review
This has to be the hardest Megaman game in existence. Looking at it for the first time, you may notice it looks a lot like Megaman 8. This is because they copied over most of the sprites from said game. Most of the game is stolen from Megaman 8, even three of the bosses are borrowed from that game. When you first start the game, you'll notice the intro stage is fine, but when you try a boss stage, you'll get your butt kicked. This game, basically a clone of Megaman 8, has all of the same problems as Megaman 8. However, there is one problem, all of the things in Megaman 8 which helped the player out are taken away. When you die, your weapon energy doesn't replenish. If you continue, you are taken back to the beginning of the stage. Playing as Megaman makes fighting the bosses easier, but playing as Bass makes going through the stages easier. Considering that this game was designed for a younger audience who still hadn't gotten a Playstation, they really didn't do a good job. And the fact this game was released make you ask, Why couldn't they have done Megaman 8 on the Super Nintendo? The game is filled with cheap tricks that get you killed, and the attacks of bosses are too unpredictable. The most annoying thing in the game that throws you for a loop is the Wily Capsule, called Wily UFO. You can only damage it by hitting the glass cockpit. All of the other Wily Capsules could be damaged anywhere. At least I have beaten the game, so now I have closure with it.
Releases
Megaman & Bass was first released for the Super Famicom in 1998 exclusively in Japan. Then in 2003, it was ported to the GameBoy Advance and was released in Japan, United States, and PAL regions.
My Rating
I give this game a 7/10. Although this game was insanely difficult and inconcievable to beat without help from an outside source, it has a great story and still has that classic Megaman feel.
