How I Came To Play This Game
Fight Geminiman
A long time ago I bought the Megaman Anniversary Collection for the Gamecube which included the first eight Megaman games and two arcade games.
Story
Doctor Wily is up to no good yet again, this time returning with 18 revived and improved Robot Masters. Mega Man and Proto Man proceed to stop him, while Bass destroys the inferior robots to show Wily that he is the only robot he needs.
Robot Masters
Cutman, Gutsman, Iceman, Crashman, Heatman, Woodman, Magnetman, Geminiman, Dustman, Gyroman, Napalmman, Plantman, Freezeman, Junkman, Cloudman, Slashman, Shademan, Turboman.
Review
This game is completely different from the other games. It has a lot more in common with the tournament fighter games like Street Fighter, as in two characters fight each other and there are health bars. The characters can use their dash moves to dodge, as well as wall jump to jump over enemies. When starting up the game, you have a choice of three characters; Megaman, Protoman, and Bass. Megaman and Protoman fight for justice, while Bass fights his creators other creations to prove that he is the greatest of them all. The characters each have their own unique charge shots, and all have the ability to copy the enemies weapons after defeating them. After picking you're character, you have a choice of three game modes; Megaman 1-2, Megaman 3-6, and Megaman 7. Basically, the bosses you'll encounter are from the games in the game mode title. There really is no difference in story for whatever mode you choose. Then, a stage is randomly selected for you to play. The first boss you fight will have the lowest health bar, and the next boss will have a slightly higher one, with the sixth boss having the highest. Then you fight a Wily Fortress boss, which could either be Van Pookin, or the Yellow Devil. Then you fight a Wily Machine that has two forms, then a Wily Capsule. The Wily Capsule is really hard in this game. There are actually two. Wily keeps switching which one he's in which is very annoying trying to hit him. You also have a time limit. In the run through I did for this review, I did not beat the Wily Capsule once. Luckily, it's optional and is only for bonus points. The game has an ending for every character, so you have to play through three times, once with each character, to see the full story. The best part about this game s that it's two player. You and a buddy can team up to fight the bosses, and hopefully gain a better chance at beating the Wily Capsule.
Releases
Megaman: The Power Battle was first released as an Arcade game in 1995. Then, a paired game which included this one and it's sequel was released for the Playstation 2 only in Japan, called Rockman: Power Battle Fighters. Then, another paired game was released for the Neo Geo Pocket color in 2000. Finally it was released as part of the Megaman Anniversary Collection for Gamecube and Playstation 2 in 2004, then on the Xbox in 2005.
My Rating
I give this game a 10/10. This game works a lot differently from the other Megaman games, but it was really fun teaming up with a friend to fight classic bosses from all over the series.
