How I Came To Play This Game
First Level Boss
One Christmas, my little brother got a Super Nintendo. One of the first games he wanted for it was Star Fox. However, no matter where we searched, we would always just miss it. It was always available at Slackers when we didn't have money, and not avaiable when we did have money. Then one day around my birthday, we were at Slackers, and I spotted it. I made a deal with my little brother that if I buy it for him, he would give me his Resident Evil Outbreak. I bought it, gave it to him, and I got the Resident Evil game in return. I also was given a chance to play Star Fox.
Story
Fight With Andross
A mad scientist named Andross was banished from the planet Corneria for his dangerous experiments and is sent to the planet Venom. There, he built up an army and has declared war on Corneria. He launched his massive army to attack the entire Lylat System, their solar system. The commander of Corneria's defenses General Pepper has hired the Star Fox team to fly new fighters called Arwings to stop Andross. The team includes the leader Fox Mcloud, and his wingmen Peppy Hare, Slippy Toad, and Falco Lombardi. They fight many battles and defeat Andross on planet Venom.
Pros And Cons
Story
First Person Point Of View
The story of Star Fox is very simple. However, the gameplay is so awsome, it doesn't really need a complex story. It just tells what you need to know: who the bad guys are, who the good guys are, and what you need to do.
Characters
The Star Fox Team
I had already known the characters from playing later Star Fox games before. They are just as lovable in this one as in those said games.
Gameplay
Corneria Stage
The gameplay of Star Fox is drastically diffrent from many other games on the SNES. It is what you would call a rail-shooter. It's as if your on one of those roller coaster rides where you shoot light guns at targets. Everything is set to happen in an already determined order, however, events may change depending on if you kill a certain enemy or not. The gameplay is simple, you continuosly move forward as enemies and obstacles appear to hinder you and you shoot/dodge out of the way. This game makes you feel like your a member of the Star Fox team.
Graphics
3D Polygon Graphics
The graphics of this game are the best on the SNES and the best Nintendo had ever made at the time. This is because of the Super FX Chip that was placed into the cartridge to enhance the power of the SNES. It it accelerated the processing power so that it could make 3D polygon graphics. It looked really nice, but the frame-rate was slow and it wasn't as easy to aim the laser as you would think. It is really hard to kit things near the edges of the screen.
Music
The music is like the music of any other standard SNES game. However, a lot of the music in Star Fox is the kind of music you would like to listen to on your mp3 players. The Title and Corneria themes are awsome.
Releases
Box Art
The original Star Fox was released in Japan in 1993 for the Super Famicom. It was released a month later in the United States for the Super Nintendo. It was released in Europe as Star Wing because of trademark issues. Also, a competition version of the game was released in the United States and Europe during a marketing campaign. It featured slightly altered levels, time limits, and a bonus level. Only about 2000 of those were made though.
My Rating
I give this game a 9/10. The graphics and story are great considering how old the game is, but it was a little hard to aim the lasers.
