How I Came To Play This Game
Spectre Kills a Spec Ops
This was another Resident Evil game released for the Xbox 360. I got it to see more of the story of what was going on during the outbreak in Raccoon City. I figured that it would be interesting to see the outbreak in the updated graphics of the seventh generation.
Story
The story focuses on two separate special forces teams - Delta Team and Echo Six - as they take part in missions for their respective commands. Delta Team, a USS unit, is assigned by USS Command with the destruction of digital data incriminating Umbrella to the biological outbreak, as well as destroying facilities and killing witnesses to prevent the US government obtaining further data. Such missions include the disabling of the city's power grid to prevent anyone using telephones. Echo Six, who operate on behalf of the US government, instead have orders to obtain sensitive Umbrella data to take them down, helping out isolated survivors along the way like Jill Valentine and Sherry Birkin.
Pros And Cons
Characters
Playable Characters
The characters in this game have a more serious tone than in most games I've played. The members of USS Delta Team have to be the scariest people I've ever played as. They all have creepy voices and they are trained to kill. The Spec Ops Echo Six team members are much more like the tone I'm used to in a Resident Evil game. All of the characters use code-names instead of their own names. The code-names for Delta Team are LUPO, VECTOR, SPECTRE, FOUR EYES, BERTHA, and BELTWAY. The code-names for Echo Six are DEE-AY, WILLOW, PARTY GIRL, SHONA, HARLEY, and TWEED.
Gameplay
Zombies In Graveyard
The gameplay retains many elements from Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. The camera is placed behind the character and you shoot with the right shoulder button. However, they made many changes. You can now aim and reload while moving which is a very useful feature. You can also duck down to hide from enemy fire. One of the oddest things in the game is that the controls are very similar to a Call of Duty game. You move with the left analog stick, look around with the right analog stick, you aim with left shoulder, fire with right shoulder, throw grenades with the smaller right shoulder, and you run by pressing R3. You could call this came Call of Evil. I didn't like it at first because I commonly don't like Call of Duty games, but I eventually got used to it. One thing that I don't like about the game is that you spend about half the game fighting people, whether they are UBCS, Spec Ops, or USS. Fighting people is the reason why I don't like Call of Duty games. However, these people take way too many hits. They can literally take a whole round of ammo and still be alive. I can understand when fighting B.O.W.s that their anatomy could be completely different from life as we know it, so they have the excuse of taking more hits than usual. but these are normal human beings. I want to fight weird creatures in a Resident Evil game, not people. Another annoying thing is the fact you can't brush past things. Many times I've gotten cornered by two enemies just because their wasn't enough space to move around them. Even two parasites were enough to trap me. There are even many places you think you could walk through, but you can't because there's an invisible barrier. Another problem is the fact that enemies can hit you while your getting back up. A Hunter knocks you to the ground, and while getting back up it can still damage you. The Tyrants are even worse. I was once trapped between a wall and two T-103s which kept taking turns slamming me to the ground. There was no way out of that, it was hopeless. The bleed status was just a stupid idea. When you get hit by an enemy, there's a slight chance you could be given bleed status. When bleeding, Zombies and Crimson Heads are attracted to you. The most ridiculous thing is that regular plane old Zombies start to run after you. Capcom keeps trying to come up with sensible ways to make Zombies run, but this isn't one of them. There are two kinds of Zombies: Those that can run and those that can't. You can only have one type in the same game, not both.
Graphics
Hunter Attacks
The graphics of this game are match the characters, being dark and scary. The portrayal of the enemies was really well. I enjoyed being able to see the outbreak in Raccoon City with graphics this good. One odd thing though is that not all of the places that were in the older games look the same. Why couldn't they have made them look more familiar?
Releases
This game was first released on March 20, 2012 for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. It was then released for the PC on May 18.
My Rating
I give this game an 8/10. It was a very fun game to play, but it had a few annoying things that were frustrating.
